I’ll admit it—I’m a color junkie. I fall in love with just about every hue under the rainbow, from whispering pastels to bold, saturated tones. But as an interior designer turned surface designer, I also keep my eye on color trends each year while balancing them with timeless classics that never go out of style. And this year, one shade is stealing the spotlight: teal.

Why I think Teal is the Color of 2026

For 2026, trend forecasters and interior designers are buzzing about teal—a perfect blue-green blend that captures the calming essence of ocean blues and the lively freshness of lush greenery. Benjamin Moore spotlighted Stained Glass (CSP-685) as a key shade in their 2024 Color Trends palette and its been popping up ever since. Teal is versatile, grounding, and full of life, making it an ideal choice for everything from nurseries to modern home décor.

Teal has always cycled in and out of the spotlight. In the Art Deco 1920s, it appeared in glamorous interiors, fashion, and architecture. It made a splash in the post-war 1950s, adorning vintage cars and retro kitchen appliances. Teal had another vibrant moment in the 1960s and 70s, often paired with warm oranges, earthy browns, and olive greens. And who could forget the Miami Vice era of the 80s and 90s, when teal and pink ruled everything from wallpaper to apparel?

Even in this century, teal has stayed relevant—Pantone named Blue Turquoise 15-5217 (2005) and Turquoise 15-5519 (2010) as Colors of the Year.

How to Decorate with Teal

The beauty of teal lies in its adaptability. It works just as well as a bold statement color as it does in subtle accents:

  • Kitchen Cabinets: Teal cabinetry brings instant character, warmth, and sophistication.

  • Living Rooms: Try a teal-drenched accent wall or cozy textiles like curtains and rugs.

  • Nurseries + Kids’ Rooms: Teal pairs beautifully with sunny yellows, coral pinks, and natural white oak woods, creating a joyful, calming space for kids.

  • Décor Accents: If you prefer a lighter touch, add teal with throw pillows, patterned bedding, or a coastal-inspired wallpaper.

As color specialist Amy Moorea Wong shared in LivingEtc, teal’s depth means it can feel fresh, timeless, and modern all at once. It’s bold enough to stand on its own, yet works in harmony with both warm and cool tones.
